Susan Morrison-Dyke’s vibrant abstract paintings combine multi-layered
compartments of color juxtaposed with intuitive interpretations of natural and
stylized forms. The improvisational elements of pictorial space and form coexist
within a formal structure allowing for an inventive use of painterly abstraction in
her work. She currently works in her studios in the SOWA Artist Building at 450
Harrison Avenue and The Fenway Studios in Boston. After graduating in 1979 with a
BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, she received a
5th Year Traveling Scholarship in addition to a later Alumni Traveling Fellowship at
SMFA. Both awards allowed her to travel the world on extended trips making a
permanent impact on her work during the early years up until the present. An
active participant during Boston’s explosive “cutting edge” 1980’s Art Scene, Susan
was represented by STUX Gallery in both New York and Boston. She later moved to
Brooklyn’s DUMBO area while working part-time for Phyllis Kind Gallery and
Nathalie KARG Gallery in SOHO while still pursuing her own art career ambitions.
Life changes led her to relocated to Vermont and eventually back to her hometown
of Oklahoma City, staying 24 years before returning to Boston 2020 to live and work
at The Fenway Studios. Her paintings have been featured at Boston’s Institute of
Contemporary Art, Oklahoma Contemporary, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The
Aldrich Museum, The Danforth Museum, The Provincetown Museum, The Berkshire
Museum, The Brockton Museum, Harvard University, Tufts University, Boston
College, The Art Institute of Boston and The Boston Museum School among
numerous other galleries and venues throughout the country. Major public art
commissions include New York’s MTA Arts for Transit Subway Murals History of
Borough Hall at Borough Hall Station in Brooklyn (pending) and The Bricktown
Ballpark Murals History of Bricktown for OKC’s Metropolitan Area Project (MAPs)
Revitalization Program.
